Tasty Thai Food
North Perth's best-kept secret is the monthly Thai Food Fair held at Kings Park Centre 180 Charles Street.
Food lovers can experience authentic Thai Food in a bustling, community setting on the first Sunday of every month from February to November, 10.30am - 2.30pm. A range of Thai vendors selling all sorts of delectable dishes at reasonable prices will have more than enough to keep you satisfied.
I went down with my family and enjoyed a range of dishes from sticky rice and chicken satay, spicy paw paw salad, sweet chilli fish, chicken curry and coconut layered desserts. My favourite was the sweet chilli fish with steamed rice whilst my partner (a vegetarian) loved the vegetarian Pad Thai. Needless to say, we were fat and happy when we left. I wish I had room for the fried mung bean dumplings with coffee! Alas, next time.
Beyond just the great food and atmosphere, the event also has traditional dancers and music. For someone like myself, who has never been to Thailand or Southeast Asia, it was very cool to see the dancers in their traditional dress.
The event is held by the Perth Thai Language Centre which seeks to teach Thai language and culture to new generations of Thai people growing up in Australia.
I recommend this great community event to anyone with an interest in food (Thai food especially), being held on a Sunday it would make for a great recovery session if you went large the night before.
