Come and join with Melbourne's Thai Community as they celebrate their 12th annual festival.
It is a chance to learn and experience their rich, and deeply beautiful culture:
It begins serenely with a traditional blessing by Buddhist monks. Throughout the day you will then find charming cultural activities such as a drum parade, thai massage, a classical mask dance, traditional dance, ancient children's games, group dancing and Thai cookery demonstrations. And that is just a few of the activities on offer.
On the central stage you can watch Thai kickboxing, a Miss Thailand beauty contest (and Thai women are certainly some of the most stunning in the world) and a fashion parade featuring famous Thai silk.
Many of these beautiful fashions and products will also be on sale at various stalls.
Thirty performers have come directly from Thailand to entertain the people of Melbourne. Unsurprisingly, last year, this delightful festival attracted 60,000 people.
The riverbank side of Fed Square will feature food tents with delicacies from 20 of Melbourne's premier Thai restaurants.
Thai food is unique and wonderfully flavoursome. Thai food ranges from pries (sour), waan (sweet), khem (salty), or per (spicy). While most of us have been to a Thai restaurant here is your chance to taste regional food and drink specialities. You can also enjoy Singha beer in the Singha Beer Garden.
You will find the festival in three connected areas in Federation Square.
Talad Nad Street market and cooking demonstrations @ Upper Terrace Federation Square
Deakin Edge – Muay Thai exhibition fights (Formerly BMW Edge)
River Terrace – Food and Drinks stalls and Singha Beer Garden
Mouthwatering Thai food and drinks.
