Self-taught artist, Clare Dwyer, is presenting her first solo exhibition
"Textura" at the
Eltham Library Community gallery till the 19th August. "Textura" is a Latin derivative for weaving, a web, texture or a structure. This simple term captures the essence of the exhibited works succinctly-lush textures, multi-faceted layers and intricate woven structures.
I was lucky enough to meet Clare at the gallery whilst she was weaving her latest piece. Having only taken up weaving 18 months ago, her impressive body of work is influenced by her surroundings and elements found in nature.
Titled "Corymbia Baby Orange", this woven piece has acorn pods inserted in its centre. She has also used merino and alpaca wool, even possum fur, which she sourced on a recent trip to New Zealand.
Clare stumbled upon
@tammykanat and was blown away by her gorgeous woven fibre art. "
I was so inspired by her magnificent pieces that I decided to make some of my own. I discovered that I loved the creative organic and therapeutic process of weaving"
There are so many layers and textures to Clare Dwyer's unique exhibition. "Textura" encompasses intricate woven structures, repurposed objects, fabrics and nature. She has the ability to recreate her experiences in nature via her art with her amazing sense of colour and eye for detail.
The Artisan Hills, Sunburst, Catcus, Hello Possum and Hot Pink Punk are just a few of the works on display, many have already sold.
So if you're just as in love as I am with Clare Dwyer work, pop on down to Eltham Library & Community Gallery and see her amazing textile art for yourself. You may even be lucky and win one of her woven pieces!
Clare Dwyer will be hosting weekend workshops where you will learn the art of weaving. A great way to meet new friends, unleash your creative side or just relax and enjoy the experience. For details of upcoming workshops please email Clare:
