New York City is far from boring, so why explore it in a routine way? New York: The Game is a text message scavenger hunt that lets you see the city in a different way. It consists of successfully completing challenges you receive via text message for one of ten zones in the city, each of which takes two to three hours to finish. All you need is a cell and a camera (or a combination of the two).

The ten game zones are Midtown, SoHo, American Museum of Natural History, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Greenwich Village, Times Square and Broadway, Flatiron District, Wall Street and Old Manhattan, Chinatown and Little Italy and Fifth Ave and Rockefeller Center. There's something for everyone whether you're a fashionista or a foodie. There is no set time to do the text message scavenger hunt, but considering some places are closed at night, you're better off doing it during the day. To help you choose which zone to do, the New York: The Game website lists the highlights of each zone, the recommended playing times and the starting points. The price per team ranges from $39 to $59, however, there is a space to enter a promo code during purchase. If you're doing either of the two museum zones, you'll have to pay admission for the museum as well. There's a discount package available if you want to do all ten game zones.

When you buy tickets for yourself or your group, you'll receive instructions and a code via email which you'll use to activate the appointed captain's phone during The Game. You have up to a year from the date you purchase the tickets to successfully activate the phone and seven days from then to finish the text message scavenger hunt. When you decide to start The Game, you'll get various challenges to complete including taking specific photos or solving riddles. Don't worry if you're not sure of the answers, you can ask for hints and skip over certain clues.

You get points for every clue you solve and the top 20 scores go on the Leaderboard on the website. If you're competitive, here's your chance to do some sightseeing and learn interesting facts while trying to knock the number one team out of position. Get motivated and grab your sneakers because The Game: New York text message scavenger hunt is something you don't want to miss.
