You can enjoy an early afternoon book reading at Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library every Friday this July at Yarra Libraries' Text Appeal events.

Yarra Libraries's Text Appeal is storytime for adults! It is a similar concept to a book club, however, rather than reading a book yourself, short stories will be read to you.

Bargoonga Nganjin is North Fitzroy's brand new library, which opened in April 2017. It is a contemporary library with state-of-the-art-facilities, including a maternal child health service, playgroup spaces, a council customer service centre, community meeting rooms, exhibition space and a rooftop garden. Bargoonga Nganjin means 'gather everybody' in Woiwurrung, the language of the Wurundjeri people.



The short stories that will be read out loud include recent short stories by Cate Kennedy, Alice Munro and Edith Pearlman - all brilliant short story writers worth reading (or listening to in this case!).

A well-known, award-winning Australian short story writer, Cate Kennedy not only writes both fiction and non-fiction short stories, but also writes poetry, as well as having written a travel memoir. She's a born storyteller whose writing is described as affecting and piercing.

Alice Munro is hailed as the master of the contemporary short story and the Canadian short story writer has won a Nobel Prize for her craft. And, American author, Edith Pearlman's Honeydew - a collection of short stories - was named one of Oprah Winfrey's Top 19 Books to Read Right Now in 2015.

Gather everyone and take some time out to be read to!

Bookings aren't required to attend, simply make your way to Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library for 1.30 pm on 7, 14, 21 and/or 28 July 2017. Each reading lasts a blissful hour.
