Update March 14th 2020
2020 Tesselaar KaBloom Festival of Flowers is cancelled due to the implications of COVID-19.
Fairies, flowers and end of summer family fun at Tesselaar
In Spring, the tulips are opening all over at the Tesselaar Flower Fields in Sivan, but in late summer, everything else blooms. So if you love flowers, like I love a bouquet of colourful beautiful blooms in my home, then it is time for a family or group road trip to the rolling hills outside of Melbourne. This is a perfect day trip to explore the countryside and see this spectacular extravaganza. Schedule your whole community group to meet and greet at this rainbow event.
Tesselaar Flower Extravaganza
The festival runs from March 28 till April 19, 2020. The Tesselaar Farm opens daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Free entry for kids under 16 helps with covering yummy food for lunches.
But this festival is not just about flowers. This year it has taken on a "fairy" feel. And this is not just about a few pretty flowers. If you can name a flower, you can see this flower on display with over 150,000 varieties and 2 million blooms across 25 acres. This pops with colour and diversity. Tesselaar has been opening their garden since 1954.
The organisers say,"Roll up, roll up to see the world's first KaBloom Circus spectacular. Visitors will be treated to a show like no other as flower fairies, sprites and pixies emerge from the magical woods to delight and entertain. The fantastical shows are set to dazzle and delight amid the colourful blooms. The troupe of sensational circus artists from Melbourne's own 'Strange Fruit' will perform scheduled shows and you should expect the unexpected as performers pop up from surprising places as you roam the farm. It is going to be amazing."
This is a new twist to the festival of prior years. It just keeps getting better and better with age, like a fine wine.
Local troupe, Ruccis Circus are running circus workshops from April 6th to 22nd, every day between 11:30am and 3:30pm. Learn juggling, the diabolo, mini bikes, the hula hoop and plenty more. Great for all ages and abilities. Full circle drumming are here April 6th to 22nd with interactive workshops at 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
On Easter weekend, there will be a massive egg hunt, but you must book well ahead for this event as numbers are limited, but you reap the chocolate rewards and bunny ears.
There is the amazing flower maze to weave and get lost and wonder about. Join the storytelling with an amazing fairy.
The tractor train is a running to take you around the massive gardens, which is great those of us who are a wee bit slower than the kid sprinters, and is wheelchair friendly as well.
You can wander the stunning historic walk with its sculpture garden.
For all the kids entry fees you save, you can spend up big at the foodie trucks. Or better yet hit the souvenir, flower, nursery, chocolate and the best old fashioned lolly shops.
For the more limber, join in the Colour Run and either throw or be thrown at, colour bombs. Check the website for times.
This is a family fun day, full of vibrant colour and joy.
