William de Worde (Brendan Ellis) becomes accidental editor of Discworld's first newspaper in Terry Pratchett's The Truth.

In The Truth, William de Worde becomes accidental editor of the Discworld's first newspaper with the help of two dwarves. With plots afoot, possible murder, dog-napping, love in the air – and a potato – the truth will make you fret, rather than set you free.

The late Terry Pratchett was a master of the fantasy genre and sold more than 85 million books worldwide in 37 languages. "We are not going for the approach taken by many Pratchett productions, which is large showy sets and intricately-built scenes," Ron said.

Chris Harris, left, Evie MacPherson, Jamie Smith, Nathan Di Giovanni, Ian Banks, Keri Neale and Clare Talbot are appearing in Terry Pratchett's The Truth.

We have a smaller stage so will be taking a set-minimalist approach and using lighting to move from scene to scene. This will also allow audiences to focus more on the action and actors with fewer distractions.

Theatre isn't just about the set, it's about the players and action taking place. A couple of characters will surprise the Pratchett fan base and my vision is to have a lot of bright colours, in both costumes and settings."

Mr Wintler (Kundai Gotore, centre) tries to convince William de Worde (Brendan Ellis, left) and Sacharissa Cripslock (Annabelle Eirth) his amusingly-shaped vegetable is worthy of media attention.

Acting for the past 40 years in Australia and the UK, Ron first acted as a 10-year-old and has gone on to perform with Moora Repertory Club, Plantagenet Players, Narrogin Repertory, ARENAarts, EdgyX, Harbour, Kwinana, Stirling, Marloo, KADS and Limelight Theatres and the Rockingham Players.

He appeared at the UK's renowned Stables Theatre and has won various acting awards, after appearing in more than 200 productions. Since mid-2013, Ron has appeared in more than 80 local films, the award-winning Fringe World show The Leftovers and has completed voiceover work for The Star War Adventures in the US.

"I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett's novels and have performed in two stage productions adapted from his plays," he said. "I know there is a large following of Pratchett's works and want to share them and possibly bring others into the fandom."

CL Cowell plays Gaspode, a dog that has the ability speak and think like a human.

CL Cowell plays Gaspode, someone who knows things he isn't supposed to know. "That's because he's a dog who can talk, a fact not widely known," she said. "When he enters the scene with his crew of misfit beggars, you know there's going to be some great comedy and possibly some plot unravelling.

Hobos (Nathan Di Giovanni, left, Ashwin Oomman, Kundai Gotore and Don Callinson) discover the talking dog Gaspode (CL Cowell) in Terry Pratchett's The Truth.

"This is my first theatrical performance so there's a lot I don't know, including the kinds of problems that occur in theatre. I'm being extra careful to expect surprises because I know theatre doesn't wait. I'm expecting to be challenged to think on my feet in new ways and show some creative spontaneity."

Alisha Versteegen, left, Jonathan McMaster and Keri Neale peruse The Ankh-Morpork Times, the cause of much rumblings in Terry Pratchett's The Truth.

Previously, CL undertook acting classes and decided theatre was the place for her. "I have always been a fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series," she said. "Having just entered the acting scene recently, I've gained a few contacts and one was kind enough to bring ARENAarts' production of The Truth to my attention."
