Visit enough breweries within the confines of Brisbane's alleyways and suburban industrial estates and it all starts to look a bit cookie-cutter. Think polished concrete floors, exposed rafters, black string lighting and an artificial grass section that is allegedly child and dog friendly. Quality fresh beer and a convivial atmosphere but not necessarily a family vibe.

The Terella Difference

Spread your brewery wings a little further afield to the Sunshine Coast and you'll be rewarded with something special. hasn't topped the GABS Hottest 100 beers or overtaken XXXX on pub taps across the nation but it is the ultimate family-friendly experience for beer lovers.
Located in the semi-rural suburb of North Arm, Terella ('Little Earth' in Latin) is a multi-acred world of its own. Pass through the gates to the ample carpark and it's immediately clear the place has something on its side that most city breweries don't - space.

Country Chic

Corrugated water tanks and outdoor picnic tables lure punters towards the colossal shed that is the brewhouse. Inside, the styling actually doesn't look too different from a city craft brewery - just more rustic with greying timber prominent.

It's hard not to be impressed by the size of the place with its extensive setup of takeaway fridge offerings and enormous cold room. Seating is ample but inside really does appear as a place to grab your beers, have a quick chat with the friendly staff and then get back outside to enjoy the serenity.

The Barnyard

The surrounding green space, grazing cows and well-positioned shade trees are all features but it's the barnyard that really adds that child-friendly point of difference.

Open from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm each Saturday and Sunday, the Terella barnyard includes goats, pigs, chickens, sheep, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs and even miniature horses. For less than the cost of a beer (Single tickets $5, Family Pass $25), you can keep the kids entertained - Terella recommends allowing 45 minutes for your experience.

All the animals are tame rescues or orphans with many being hand-raised. The barnyard is fully enclosed and wheelchair accessible, providing a truly inclusive experience.

Note, all children under eight must be accompanied by an adult who also requires a ticket. Children under 12 months receive free entry with a valid adult ticket.

The Beers

The supersized theme continues to the bar with 14 taps in operation serving beer, cider, hard lemonade and ginger beer. It might be the country air, but the beer at Terella really does taste pure - about as far from a can of VB as you can get.

With so many choices, a tasting tray is highly recommended to discover your favourites. The takeaway options are many but it's hard to go past a growler of your newest number-one beer to continue the freshness at home.

The Extras

While Terella is strictly no BYO, it does encourage guests to bring along birthday cakes for that special occasion. Gazebos can also be set up on the glorious turf surrounds and your furry family member is also very welcome if kept on a lead at all times.

While cheese platters and snacks are available for purchase from the bar, food trucks supply the major dining options from Friday to Sunday. Live music adds to the atmosphere on weekends from midday to 3 pm.

Taproom Hours:

Monday to Wednesday: Closed
Thursday & Friday: Midday - 8 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10 am - 6 pm

The Wrap

is unashamedly about family and community engagement rather than overindulgence. Its serene setting really does encourage a sense of relaxation not experienced in inner city brewhouses. Pair it with a trip to a gorgeous Sunny Coast beach and you've got the makings of an outstanding weekend perfect for all members of your tribe.
