Fusion of fresh food and fun
While enjoying my first teppanyaki experience with my husband and friends last year, I remember thinking " Wow, the kids would love this". After a bit of research, I found a family-friendly teppanyaki restaurant in Cleveland.

Situated at Raby Bay Marina, the Teppanyaki Bar caters to groups large and small and families too. For those unfamiliar with teppanyaki, it is a contemporary style of Japanese cuisine. Teppan means iron plate and yaki means grilled. The food is cooked right in front of you on an flat grill by an extremely skilled and theatrical chef; with lots of fast and furious chopping, knives flying, and food throwing.

Teppanyaki Bar is set up with stations with seating from four and up. Our family of five was seated at our own station. The chef was fun and friendly and the kids loved his theatrics. Sadly, there was no food thrown at our table. Perhaps because we had children or maybe this is reserved for larger groups. I noticed several stations celebrating birthdays nearby that got the full food performance.

Regardless, the kids enjoyed their dinner and the show. The food was cooked to perfection and even our fussiest eater didn't complain once. I chose the Teppanyaki Special ($37.50) with teriyaki chicken and hibachi snapper, while my husband ordered the Raby Bay Delight ($46.50) with hibachi king prawns and teriyaki chicken. My snapper was superb. Each banquet comes with salad, prawn appetiser, miso soup, fried rice, hibachi vegetables, and ice-cream. Children can choose from teriyaki chicken or hibachi snapper ($14.50) and their meals also come with rice and ice-cream. Ice-cream flavours include vanilla, chocolate, and green tea. I decided on green tea, which I must admit is an acquired taste (as an ice-cream).

Teppanyaki Bar is located at 14/152-166 Shore Street West in Cleveland. They are open from 5:30pm until 10:00pm on Tuesday to Sunday. On weekends they are also open for lunch from 11:30 am until 2:00pm. Their teppanyaki lunch special costs $22.50.
