We were looking for something fun for the family to do on a bleak and rainy Saturday morning. Bowling was the suggestion from Mr. 5.

We knew of 3 places close by - Hyperbowl at Strathpine, Chermside Tenpin Bowling Centre at the Chermside Shopping Centre and Aspley 10 Pin Bowl. Our choice this time was the Aspley Bowl . We rang to check if a booking was required and they said it was OK to just turn up.

The carpark is big so even though it didn't appear to be that busy it was buzzing inside. There were a couple of primary school age boys celebrating their bithdays, a few families and a number of lanes of disabled bowlers. As there are 20 lanes there was plenty of room for us.

We signed up for 2 games and the cost was around $40 for our family of four as we had a 1 game free voucher. A game consists of 10 goes (or frames) each. I noticed later that they have a whole range of deals including a champagne bowling package. That one sounded good to me. There is also disco bowling, and cheap Sunday bowling among others.

The kids loved having the bumpers and being able to use the ramps as it makes them competitive with Mum and Dad. I did get a bit sick of dragging the heavy ramps over to the start of the lane each time though. We spent about 2 hours completing our games and that was enough for all of us.

There is also a cafe serving a range of hot and cold foods, including the usual kids' favourites of chips, nuggets, and pizza. They also offer healthy salad and wrap choices along with ice creams and lollies. There is a good variety of drinks including alcoholic ones for the parents. No food is allowed in the lane area but there are plenty of tables on the mezzanine level right near the lanes.

The first time we had visited the Aspley Bowl was for a child's 4th birthday party. Party packages cover bowling, food and drink and some vouchers for the arcade games. There are quite a few games both in the party room and outside which were pretty popular with the kids at that particular party.

Something I will be keen to try on our next visit is the bowling cannon. We did not see it in action but it looks like a cannon and the staff assured me it was more fun than bowling with the ramps.

For all that is on offer have a look at the website . I might see you there celebrating a strike or two.
