Any night's a good night to see a flick at the heritage-listed Ritz, one of only two art deco cinemas left in Sydney. The Ritz is fully licensed, so you can buy a wine or boutique beer in the mezzanine-level bar, and take it into the cinema with you. This long-running evening, organised by Kerri Ellis and Katherine Vavahea, features both established and emerging songwriters, who play underneath a spangled bicycle in Mr Falcon's intimate front room. Expect anything and everything - from local blues duos to European folk musicians on international tour. CHEAP TUESDAYS AT THE OLD FITZ THEATRE, WOOLLOOMOOLOO

The Old Fitz is the only the pub in Australia with its own theatre. Located downstairs, beneath the bar, the 60-seater room hosts some of the best independent productions in Sydney. On Tuesdays, all tickets are $25. Pasta with a side of garlic bread is $15.
