Telethons are taking on a different platform in uncertain times. However, what doesn't change is generosity from the heart when it comes to supporting those in need. The ASRC (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) are holding their TELETHON online on World Refugee Day; Saturday 20 June 2020 from 7am to 10pm. This is a COVID-19 safe online event. This LIVE fundraising appeal will be broadcasted over ASRC's social media profiles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You can SIGN UP for alerts via an email reminder before the event, as well as alerts throughout the day when key activities happen.
Your favourite media personalities, celebrities, artists, musicians and businesses will take part in this event; same-same but differently. Join them in this celebration as they pull out all the stops to entertain you virtually, some from the Footscray Centre, so be sure to tune in on the day! This is an event that celebrates the enormous human spirit it takes by refugees as they show strength and resilience waiting to be given a fresh start in their new homeland. It's not a one-way street as we recognise their contributions to our communities and the richness and diversity they bring to our cultural identity.

Thousands of people seeking asylum rely on the ASRC to help keep them safe this winter. They are without an income nor have access to safety nets like Centrelink and Medicare. It's just not possible to provide their families with the basics they need to survive; essentials like food, medicines, healthcare, safe housing. They are at serious risk of hunger, homelessness and destitution, this is more than a COVID-19 crisis for the 6,000 vulnerable people supported by the ASRC each year. Please HELP. Here are 10 eye-opening facts to share on World Refugee Day.
