Teddy Picker's is a popular cafe located in the inner-south suburb of Campbell, just a few minutes drive from the city centre. It is wall-to-wall with local workers during the week and residents of the leafy suburb on weekends. It is situated next to another popular café and bar called The Pedlar , so on weekends, you will find both of them humming with laughter and caffeine-induced energy. Both are adjacent to the new and modern C5 apartment precinct in Campbell, which is situated on prime real estate on Constitution Avenue - a short walk from the Australian War Memorial and Lake Burley Griffin.

This café is always busy on the weekends in particular, with a line of people often seen out the front as they wait for a table. I was lucky enough however, to have a weekday morning to myself so I decided to treat myself to breakfast at Teddy Picker's, before a walk up Mount Ainslie - which is just a short drive away behind the Australian War Memorial. Although there were a few outside tables left (with a cute little area for pooches!), I was able to get a table inside so I could simply sit back and enjoy the relaxed vibe and leafy surroundings.

The seating area inside is full of light, with high ceilings and greenery hanging from above, which creates a calming, relaxed feel to the area. There is also an interesting series of bookshelves positioned up towards the ceiling, with an eclectic mix of books and pots to look at - which makes you wonder where they all came from. Behind the shelves is a staircase up the lounge area, if you want to relax with coffee and chat comfortably with friends.

The menu at Teddy Picker's is creative and has a wide range of breakfast options that you can order all day. Don't forget to look at the Daily Specials sheet in the wooden box on your table, with decadent breakfast and lunch specialities to choose from.

As a lover of anything with avocado, I chose the Avo on Toast - with hummus, Meredith feta, dukkah, lemon and rye toast for $17. You can also add an egg for $4. When the dish arrived, it was like a picture on a plate. As well as the colourful presentation, another aspect about this dish that I liked was that it was my job to put it together. After trying the flavour of the dukkah and feta to check that I liked it (which was a resounding YES!), I could then smear the hummus over the rye toasts, flake over the feta, slice the avocado and sprinkle the dukkah to my taste. The result was a filling, beautifully balanced breakfast that was perfect in every way. It was also accompanied by a creamy Red Brick Espresso coffee (made in Curtin) and expertly made by the barista in Campbell. If you prefer tea however, you're in luck, as they have a whole page of tea options and the teapot is served with a timer, so you know when the water is at optimal temperature. They think of everything!

If you don't wish to eat in, you can order a takeaway coffee and also grab a cold juice, salad or healthy takeaway meal from the small fridge by the front door. If you want something to take back to your office or home, also check out their range of pickles, jams and chutneys to give your own meals that added Teddy Picker's zing.

Teddy Picker's, which is apparently named after an Arctic Monkey's song, has been serving the local community for over a year. Their friendly staff and revolving front door, shows that they have cemented themselves into this thriving Campbell community. The location of the café is also handy, as it is walking distance to Lake Burley Griffin (via Cottage/@-35.292421,149.1435349,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xb97f3e6ba5ba1b81!8m2!3d-35.2928483!4d149.1417325 Wendouree Drive to Blundell's Cottage ) and the Anzac Parade Memorial Walk . For those who like history, the 170 year old St John's Church is also nearby and behind the C5 construction, there is a small park, with small playground with swings and a grassy area for the kids to run around. It is easy to see how this café is so popular - with friendly staff, outstanding food and handy location, it really is one of Canberra's best brunch spots...
