A Teddy Bears Picnic is a fun, free activity for young children. Pick a picnic spot, with the feel of a wood, as your venue. Even a few trees, together with a bit of imagination, can conjure up the setting to go with the song: "If you go down to the woods today… today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic". So now you have a venue, next up is the picnic. Teddy biscuits are a hit, honey sandwiches are good (as bears love honey, according to Pooh Bear) and fruit is a healthy choice. Don't forget drinks and a rug to sit on, then it's time to round up some teddies to take with.
Call up some toddler friends and invite them to join you - it's a great pre school age picnic idea. Set out rugs and the teddies when you arrive and enjoy your picnic. The wood will offer lots of hiding places for hide & seek. Choose a teddy and take turns to hide him for a game of hunt the teddy. Our picnic site (at Pizzey Park on the Gold Coast) had a playground next to it and the slide, see-saw and swings were very popular too. There is also a lake at Pizzey Park, so we took bread to feed the ducks although some littlies found the swans that arrived, a bit intimidating.
There was plenty of space on the grassy area for playing with a ball. To finish off, we had some fun on the athletics track with running races. We started with Ready, Set Go, positioned like Olympic runners and then did long jump leaps into the sand pit. There were some very tired little bears who fell asleep in the car on the way home, after a really fun morning.
