We all know that walking is a good exercise but have you ever considered walking the shopping mall as a form of exercise? That is what members of the Westfield Tea Tree Plaza Walkers do. The club, formed 19 years ago, currently has about 180 members. The members meet every Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7.30am for some warm-up exercises and then do a walking lap around the mall. The walkthrough both upstairs and downstairs mall in one round is roughly 1.9km. Of course, you walk at your own pace. There are qualified instructors and support crew to assist with any need or problem.
Mall walking as a form of exercise is now very popular in Australia. Well, it has its positive factors. First of all, malls are pedestrian-friendly and provide a safe and sheltered environment regardless of the weather conditions outside. Malls also offer level walking surfaces, free from traffic and other obstacles with convenient facilities like restrooms and comfortable seats to rest if needed.
The Tea Tree Plaza Walkers Group welcomes newcomers who would like to join them. There is a once-only joining fee of $5.00 and $2.00 per walk. The first walk is complimentary. The club also has many other social events and fun activities throughout the year. For more information and details of membership, visit their website.
