Driving to the shops or even passing through some of the outer South Eastern suburbs can be thirsty work. For someone who yearns for a "good cup of tea", there's not too many choices and sometimes one even has to resort to a cup of coffee.

But a tea-lover is just that. They will go out of their way to find a good cafe that serves tea and then willingly make that particular little shop one of their favourites.

Don't get me wrong. Most coffee shops do provide cups of tea, but honestly who wants to pay $3.50 or even more at some places, for a small cup of hot water and a tea bag tossed onto the saucer?

Near and at the foothills of the Dandenongs, there are a number of small cafes that sell surprisingly good light meals and serve either coffee or tea.

Koko Lime Cafe. 20A Alchester Crescent, Alchester Village - Boronia VIC 3155 Phone: 9739 8466

Now this has to be one of the most best kept secrets from people outside of the area. Why? Because it's so popular with locals that it's hard to find a seat at times. Natasha has trained her wait staff very well, and their welcoming smiles and excellent service make the whole experience a most enjoyable one.

Don't be misled by the title of French Toast and Bacon and think this could be a boring meal - according to the menfolk in my family, this is just tops! Another favourite is Lambs Fry and Bacon with chips and salad, and wow, what a meal that is.

Koko's has to be one of the best small cafes for spaghetti bolongaise this side of Italy - value for money? Sure is. They have a good range of pasta dishes.

Breakfast though has yet more surprises, and their Eggs Benedict is something to write home about. It's my favourite, bar none.

They have a nice selection of snacks including chicken rolls, bruschetta, frittata, Thai balls, and the tastiest sausage rolls. Pumpkin soup is a great favourite at any time of the year. A variety of slices and large sized muffins tempt all ages.
