One of the locals suggested we have lunch at the Taylors Lakes Hotel. It wasn't what I expected. With its black shiny tiles, gold sign on the floor and background pokies humming, it looks and sounds like a Hollywood or Las Vegas foyer than a local pub.
The Quality Hotel in Taylors Lakes is located close to the Melbourne Airport so convenient for travellers, locals and visitors alike. It offers a lot - food, drink, live music, gambling and accommodation operating seven days a week, alongside extensive conference and function facilities.
The hotel has received the coveted awarded 'Best gaming venue - with 51 machines or more [metropolitan]' at the AHA (Vic) states awards for excellence and 'Best pub style accommodation venue'.
Inside the restaurant
JBJ's Restaurant comes highly recommended as a great place for lunch or dinner. It features an a la carte lunch and dinner menu at competitive pub prices. JBJ's offers contemporary food, Asian cuisine and wood fired pizzas. The bar stocks a wide variety of quality and affordable wines, beers, etc and a range of desserts. Entrees are from $10.00 to $22.00, and main $15.00 to $25.00.
We chose the salmon, red onion and avocado pizza - an unusual pick for me. The pastry was thin and crispy and I really enjoyed it. Nine-inch pizzas are from $9 and 12 inch around $18. For the menu click here.

The waitress was smiling from the time she saw us until the time we left. I thought her attitude was unusually jovial, perhaps it's all part of the Taylors Lakes service, but in retrospect, I should have checked my dress wasn't tucked into my undies!
We went early for lunch, so it was pretty quiet, but I am told JBJ's is a very popular so it's a great idea to make a reservation.
