Summer at the Square (Fed Sq, cnr Flinders and Swanston Streets in the CBD) is filled with free events for the whole family, including music performances, free films, candlelight events and more. For the Taylor Swift fans, Filipino drag impersonator Taylor Sheesh is a must see on Friday 16 February 2024 from 7.30-9.30pm at the Main Square. Mac Coronel is a Manila-based Filipino performer and long-time fan, who performs as drag persona Taylor Sheesh and has been doing it since 2017. Now a worldwide sensation, Taylor Sheesh has taken her Errors tour, to shopping malls and stadiums across the Philippines. The upcoming performance on Fed Square’s main stage will be her first major public appearance in Australia.
Hosted by Tristan Meecham from All The Queens Men, the night kicks off with a spectacular showcase of local talents, featuring voguing from The House of Diesel, dance pop-ups by Body Electric, Bollywood rhythms with Sapphire Dance, and performances by First Nations artist 2Joocee and Chelsea Wilson plus cheerleading with Outlaw Allstars. The best part, dressing to impress as Taylor gives you a chance to win a trip for 2 to the Philippines (valued at $5,000 AUD), courtesy of Cebu Pacific Air and Melbourne Airport. The best-dressed Taylor will be selected on the night by Tristan Meecham and awarded their prize on stage by the Queen herself, Taylor Sheesh. Please note that the competition is only available to those over 18, but all are welcome to come dressed to participate in the dress-up extravaganza. Swiftposium Presents: Taylor Swift, Feminism & The Music Industry
Prior to all other Swift events, Sun 11 Feb 2024 from 6-7pm at The Edge - Fed Sq. Join the 'Talk'. A special event moderated by Georgie Tunny, The Project presenter and host of the new Taylor Swift Podcast, Ready For It. The panel of experts are: Kate Neal (award winning composer, and lecturer at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music), Kate Pattison (PhD student, RMIT) and Eilish Gilligan (musician, journalist and host of the Stranger Than Fiction podcast). This panel discussion examines Taylor Swift’s influence as a feminist, artist businesswoman. It will explore how she has generated such a strong fandom, how she is a significant force for change in the music industry, and her impact on other artists.
