Sydney's a diverse city, and the new Pop Up Restaurant initiative from TASTE , the Benevolent Society's successful social enterprise, will be available in Sydney's South West suburbs, and offer a mix of tasty treats and dishes from around the world.

The first Pop Up Restaurant experience, called Food, Flavour, Fusion, will be held on Saturday, 15th March at the Fairfield Museum and Gallery , where you will also be given a guided tour of the museum's Food, Flavour, Fusion exhibition.

Julie Everton, Product Manager for TASTE says the Pop Up Kitchen idea introduces Sydney's foodies to the suburbs, cuisines and cultures of South West Sydney.

It's a way to use food to bring communities together and overcome disadvantage. In this case, it showcases one of South West Sydney's biggest strengths, its variety of authentic food from around the world, while serving a social purpose.

The Food, Flavour, Fusion restaurant will offer a culinary fusion of Asian and Middle Eastern food and cultures, where you will enjoy a three course meal, a live cooking demonstration by local Buddhist Chef Andy Chin and a museum tour of the exhibition focussing on the Assyrian, Chinese and Vietnamese influences on the area.

Some of the great food on the menu will include:
  • Rice Paper rolls or Arabic Flat Bread (you can even make the rice paper rolls yourself!)
  • Fired halal lamb kofta balls
  • Vietnamese style pork mince
  • Slow cooked lamb shanks in pomegranate molasses
  • Lao sticky rice with coconut, saffron, apricot and blanched almonds
  • Vietnamese coffee

  • If you're not able to make this event, there are 2 other Pop Up Restaurant experiences available. The Sabadee Pi Mai (Lao New Year) event held on Sunday, 13th April at Wat Phrayortkeo Dhammayanaram in Bonnyrigg will see you celebrating with the Lao Buddhist community by offering alms to the monks, joining the parade from the Temple to the Bodhi tree and of course feasting on Lao cuisine. The next event is Teena's Table, held on Friday, 9th May at Teena's Table in Bankstown. Here, you will join Teena as she serves up her favourite Portuguese dishes including crabs, prawns and chorizo as well as sweet treats including Portuguese tarts.
