Taste of Nepal

Established in 2004, along The Parade in Kensington specialises in Nepalese cuisine, a kind of cuisine we rarely see offered in Adelaide. A unique aspect of the table water that was offered to us was that it contained a sprig of basil to impart it with a slight herby taste.
The chicken that featured in the Kukhura Ko Masu was very tender and of a quantity to make eating the dish a satisfying experience. The Nepali spices used in the dish was what gave the dish its distinctive smoky flavour.
While the amount of barramundi in the Machha Tarkari seemed little, the chunks of barramundi were actually of a fairly generous size. We also liked that it easily flaked apart with a fork while still retaining a bit of bite. Compared to the Kukhura Ko Masu, the curry gravy was milder with a background taste that is similar to mustard seeds.
The nine types of beans that featured in the Kwati still retained a bit of bite and gave the dish a slightly thick texture. They also imparted the dish with a delectable earthy taste. Bok choy added extra texture to the dish and the degree of heat is that which is suitable for those not used to spicy foods.
For something unusual to go with your main dishes, there is the Pulau Rice which consists of rice topped with candied onion, green peas, toasted flax seeds and slivered almonds. The rice was light and fluffy with a hint of buttery flavour. The various toppings added extra flavour to the dish with the slivered almonds adding a bit of crunch to the dish.
If you prefer something more "normal", there is their Garlic Roti. The roti had a nice chewy texture while still retaining a bit of lightness. Its plain taste makes it a good foil to their stronger taste dishes. The garlic that is brushed over it imparted the garlicky flavour that we expected.
The décor of the restaurant gave it a cosy feel. Parking is not a problem with the carpark next to the restaurant offering convenient off-street parking.
