A Cheap Night Out For The Family
The kids had already decided between them that they wanted to have Asian food for dinner. I wanted to have a bit of a look at what was available before I made up my mind. Not surprisingly we ended up eating Asian, as we did on our last visit to Swan Hill.
Stay vegetables and tofu
It was pretty quiet at the Taste Me café which includes a sushi bar and noodles. These owners have only been in the shop for about one month, so the sign at the front has not been updated yet.
Of course my kids couldn't just pick something off the extensive menu - they wanted a different combination. Luckily for them the Taste Me restaurant was obliging.
Sweet and sour pork with a pile of noodles
My daughter wanted sweet and sour pork. I'm not sure why because I don't think she has ever had it before. When it arrived I commented that there was no way a little girl could finish that much food … but once again she proved me wrong.
My son chose crispy duck noodles, which usually comes with rice. He commented that it was really crispy duck. The noodles were the thick soft type that is very filling. He couldn't finish his meal.
The meals were ridiculously large. Even though each meal was very inexpensive ($40 for all of us including drinks) I suggest if you bring children that they share a meal.
I chose a satay vegetable dish, which I really enjoyed. It was literally steaming hot. I like my food hot until the end of eating. I was impressed at the way they cooked the tofu. I find this can be hit or miss. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There was a nice range of vegetables that were perfectly cooked. This was served with a tasty rice and there was no way I was ever going to finish that plate of food.
A smiling young waitress who was very friendly served the meals and patient with us. It was a Sunday night but I was surprised that we were the only customers as it's on a best restaurants in Swan Hill list.
Although I was unconvinced about eating Asian again tonight I would certainly go back to this restaurant and the kids said the same.
I am not sure if this is a temporary arrangement while they set up the shop but they are a cash only restaurant. They also have a loyalty card. Buy four drinks and get the fifth free.
