Loosen your belt buckle and get ready to eat your way through October and November. Taste It - Canberra's Food and Wine Festival begins on the 9th of October and runs until the 17th of November. Venues all around Canberra have special food and wine events planned, to make sure you don't spend a night hungry.
The festival kicks off with and impressive start, the Wine Symposium at Siren Bar & Restaurant. You can enjoy a six-course dinner with matched wines at this classy venue, for $95 a head.
Other long dinners are the five-course Brown Brothers dinner at Green Herring, with options like the pan seared prawns served with crispy pork belly; drizzled with apple reduction topped with bacon dust, or the six-course dinner at On Red; starting with the smoked trout with wasabi and avocado puree and ending with a praline parfait.
Something a little bit different is the range of cocktail events in the festival; it isn't all about wine. For $25 at Mercury Bar you can share three of their teapot cocktails as part of the teapot tasting menu, then there's the cocktail mixing journey at Trinity Bar. Shogun also have TeppenSake, a five-course meal matched with different Japanese sakes.
The good thing about a festival like this, is that it's easy to take part in as little or as much as you like. The various events range from $15 to $120, with most smaller meals around the $60, and long, multi-course meals around $90.
It's a great excuse to go out, try somewhere new, and enjoy some good food and drink. So where will you be going to Taste It?
