Crunchy pork belly with an apple salad and ranch dressing are likely to take on the starring role in a Mother’s Day Long Table Fundraising lunch at Kodja Place in Kojonup.

The beautiful setting for the long table lunch

Chef Linney Breytenbach, who only arrived in Australia late last year from South Africa says the dish is always a favourite whenever she cooks it. And harissa yoghurt slow-roasted lamb shoulder and wattle seeds are not far behind on the list of favourites. Then there’s her wagyu beef with chimichurri and café de Paris butter with a spicy touch.

The lunch on Sunday, May 12 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm will feature a harvest table with slow-roasted beetroot and honey butternut with cucumber spring onion, toasted pumpkin seeds and a balsamic reduction; new potatoes with roasted garlic and parsley; watermelon and feta with fresh mint, pomegranates and salsa verde.

Recently arrived South African Chef Linney Breytenbach will be cooking a charity long table Mother's Day lunch

For dessert, Linney will prepare a traditional South African dessert, Cape Malay Koeksisters with milk tart ice cream.

Linney and her husband Rohan, who is working for Frankland Estate Winery as a viticulturalist are now living at Frankland River. The couple came from the busy South African wine-producing region of Stellenbosch with its restaurants and wineries, which is quite a contrast from the remote and peaceful Frankland River.

Pork belly is a favourite of Linney's

While Frankland River might not have the hum of Stellenbosch Linney says the region produces some wonderful wine. And her approach to using top-quality local produce is the same in South Africa as it is in the Great Southern, particularly, pork belly, which she features in her signature dishes incorporating Asian and Japanese flavours.

In South Africa, Linnéy worked at the prestigious boutique hotel and wine farm Clouds Estate before joining Rickety Bridge Winery in Franschhoek. She also went to Thailand to learn about their cooking and how their flavours work. Linney says she is a big fan of the flavour profile of Thai cooking. Her own love for cooking was born as a youngster on family holidays where she would get excited about planning meals for the family. She studied food and hospitality at school and then went to a culinary school.
