A friend told me that a new cafe slash bakery had just opened on Rundle St. Naturally, I was quite keen to visit it as my friend noted that Taste Baguette is quite a famous and popular cafe. It's got about 20 bakery cafes in Sydney, one in Adelaide University and the other in Monash University, Melbourne. St is the second store in Adelaide.



The shop is located near Zambrero's on Rundle St. The cafe has a storefront that displays their fresh looking pastries.



My friend and I visited the cafe on their second day of opening. The cafe staff greet us warmly and are probably pretty excited about their opening. One of them lets us know that the menu is a bit on the small side right now but in a few weeks they'll increase the number of items on it.



I really like the rustic decor; it has this earthy, old-time charm. There are a lot of old-fashioned scales and vintage, rusty items scattered about the cafe which gives it more character.



So far the ambience is really doing it for me. After we order our meals, the staff informs us of an indoor garden to dine-in behind the cafe.



It's a small space behind but they've managed to pack so much character in it. Potted plants line the walls and some even hang from the ceilings; the sight of the greenery is a welcoming contrast between the rustic wooden furniture. Even the overhead lights have been carefully selected to fit in with the rest of the decor; they're these hanging metal lamps that look like they belong in a different century from the modern lights I'm used to.



As we admire our surroundings, the food we ordered arrives. As it is called Taste Baguette, you can bet that we ordered their time-honoured baguette creations. These are part of the selection of baguettes that are available in every store.



My friend ordered the Vietnamese Style Lemongrass Beef (chicken is also usually available but not at the time of this review). It's grilled beef marinated in lemongrass served with iceberg lettuce, pickled carrot and radish, topped with coriander and spring onion. It definitely tasted like a Vietnamese dish. My friend enjoyed it quite well with the crispy baguette it was served on.



I ordered the Classic Vietnamese baguette. The staff explained that it has two different types of pork, cucumber, onion, carrots and radish topped with coriander and soy dressing. I had a taste of both and I think I enjoyed my baguette more than the lemongrass one. It offered a more flavourful taste which I think is due to the soy dressing combination.



My friend ordered mocha as well and she was quite pleased with her choice. I'm not a coffee-drinker so I'm unable to comment on their brew but my friend affirms that they serve good coffee.

Taste Baguette doesn't have a lot of dine-in space and it tries to cater more to takeaway. If you dine-in, it's an extra 30 cents charged per item. They currently have an offer going on where it's $6 for coffee and a pastry from their window selection.
