I had the opportunity to visit French restaurant "Tartine" located at Lyndhurst Terrace in Central during my summer break (I run on Australian times). The ambiance of the place was wonderful with its teal and coppery-gold colour scheme, which really gives a unique and artistic feel.
The menu provides the option to choose one or two appetisers along with one of the signature tartine dishes has on offer. I chose the green pea gazpacho, a delectable cold dish that was rich with flavour. I would have preferred a hot soup, but the richness of the green pea flavour made up for it. I also sampled some of my friend's quinoa salad, which again was a satisfying appetiser.
There were quite a lot of choices when it came to the tartine dish, but I ended up with the tomato & mozarella combination (I have a weakness for tomatoes). This was definitely not the wrong choice at all. The generous amount of mozarella paired with the fresh cherry tomatoes was the perfect combination in this tartine. I also sampled the prawn & homemade bechamel tartine and the ratatouille & egg mollot one. All three dishes were quite good, and I left fully satisfied.
As is usual for restaurants in Hong Kong, each meal is accompanied with either a tea or coffee. I chose the coffee (black coffee with milk on the side) and it was the perfect drink to end the meal with.
Overall, was a great place to have lunch at with friends. The choice of appetisers and tartines was satisfactory, but if you prefer to have more choice on hand, I would suggest trying out a different type of restaurant that has a lot more on offer. However, I would say that 119HKD (before the 10 percent service charge) is a pretty decent amount to pay for one appetiser, one main dish and one drink at a restaurant that is located in Central. You may find it hard to come by a restaurant in such a location that offers you the comfort and quality that provides.
