One of the most picturesque walks around Sydney Harbour takes you from Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach.
Along the way you will pass through national park and a number of sites of historical interest as well as taking in amazing views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and city centre all the way around to the heads.
The walk itself should take you around 2 hours with public transport available to take you back to the start.
Here is a
good map of the walk produced by the
Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.
The recommended itinerary is to start at
Taronga Zoo Wharf which can be reached by bus or ferry. For the best bus route for you consult the very handy
131500.info website.
The first section winds around Bradleys Head, pass Taylors Bay, and over to the historic Clifton Gardens and Chowder Bay. This should take about 1 hour 40 minutes and you can rest here at the cafe and kiosk.
Highlights on the remainder of the walk to Balmoral include the view from Georges Head and Middle Head Road, and Balmoral itself.
Once you reach Balmoral you could have something to eat, take a swim to cool down, or just have a well-deserved rest on the beach.
Then you can either catch the 238 bus back from
Raglan St back to Taronga Wharf or if you have the energy walk the alternative route back to Clifton Gardens and from there back to Taronga Wharf.
Why? Amazing views of the harbour.
