Have you seen any colourful arty rhinos on your outings in Sydney and surrounds?

I spotted two in Darling Harbour and endeavoured to find out what they were all about.

Taronga Zoo is hoping to bring attention to these animals that are facing extinction due to habitat loss and poaching. They have put together this project that involves over 100 sculptured rhinos and invited local artists and schools to paint them. They have then been placed in various locations from Sydney's harbour foreshores to the Blue Mountains and on to Dubbo and the central west region of NSW.

You can find them in public places, parks and streets. Why not buy one? The zoo will be auctioning off these artworks in May and hope to raise over $400,000 towards their rhino conservation programs.

No room for a rhino where you live but still want to help? No problem, you can make a donation online .

You can see them from now until 28th April. There is a trail map online that you can download. There are quite a number of them around Sydney's CBD. Perhaps you could go on a bit of an adventure (think Amazing Race) with friends to find them.
