Are you one of those people who has trouble deciding what to order out for dinner? Do you pick Japanese, Thai or Vietnamese? Why not go to a place that serves all three? Tao Café serves dishes from Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. There are Tao Cafes in East Victoria Park, Innaloo, Myaree and Subiaco . "Tao" translates as "path" or "way of life" and its logo is the symbol for yin and yang. The Tao Café I visited is located at located at 860 Albany Hwy in East Victoria Park. I first noticed it because of its huge sushi train and how popular the place seemed on a Saturday night. Tao Café is family friendly and open seven days a week from 10.30am to 9.30pm Sunday through to Wednesday and from 10.30am to 10pm Thursday through to Saturday.



There is almost too much choice at Tao Café. The sushi train takes up the length of the restaurant and features things like sushi rolls, dumplings and sashimi but also sweet treats like cakes, puddings, tarts and large cups full of rainbow jelly. If you don't want to pull up a chair and sit at the train, you can grab a table or a wall booth. The a la carte menu features an entrée section, Japanese and Thai and Vietnamese options, a selection of sushi and a dessert and kid's menu. Kid's meals cost from $6.50 to $9.50. Choices include sushi rolls, chicken and fried rice, tempura fish and chips and chicken karaage and chips. Mains for adults range in price from $11 to over $30. When we went there I had the Vietnamese dish Hu Tieu soup for $17 dollars. It was a clear broth that came with noodles, prawns and calamari rings, chives, coriander, fried onions and chopped spring onions. The service was great. I had my soup in less than half an hour. The broth was a bit flavourless but the prawns and calamari and noodles were nice. My two year old loved her karaage chicken and chips.



If you're having a party Tao Café does catering. You can purchase 30 pieces, 40 pieces and 60 pieces "regular" sushi sets for $30-$60 that include chicken teriyaki rolls, tuna mayonnaise rolls, tobiko rolls, chicken katsu rolls and vegetarian rolls. You can get "deluxe" 30 pieces, 40 piece and 60 piece sushi sets for $38 to $72 dollars that have fancier sushi flavours like spicy tuna and spicy salmon. You can also purchase desserts, curries, stir fries and rice dishes and hot platters. Tao Café has some amazing desserts. The first thing you see when you step in the door is a case full of colourful macarons. What some people might not know is that Tao Café can make custom made desserts. If you check their website, there are pictures of gingerbread houses, giant Pokémon balls, cupcakes and a cake made out of macarons.



If you're looking for a new place to take the family out to dinne,r I recommend that you give Tao Café a try. The servings are generous, the prices are reasonable and you can get some frozen yoghurt next door when you're done!
