Cocktails in a greenhouse on a terrace by the river
The ancient art of distilling botanical ingredients to make spirits is alive and well in 2018. Gin is the new black and its renaissance is overtaking bars and drinking establishments all over the world. Until the end of 2018 you can partake of the popular juniper-flavoured tipple and enjoy the spring/summer ambience of Customs House overlooking the Brisbane river at Tanqueray Terrace, Brisbane's own pop up botanical bar.
The stately and stylish Customs House has been serving up seasonal pop-up bars for the past couple of years. The vodka, winter-warming food and pop-up igloos of winter have now made way for not just Tanqueray gin but also greenhouses, loungers, a herb garden and a fresh spring-inspired menu. Fancy some after work drinks with your friends or workmates? Looking for the perfect venue for late night drinks or a city idyll for a lazy Sunday afternoon by the river? You're covered because all this botanical brilliance is available from Thursday to Saturday from 4pm 'til late, as well as on Sunday afternoons from 12noon to 4pm until the end of December.
On tasty offer will be a range of new and classic Tanqueray gin and tonics balancing exotic, full-bodied flavours such as Rangpur limes and Seville oranges with secret botanical ingredients, all mixed with Fever Tree Tonic. Classic gin cocktails include the Tanqueray No. Ten Martini ($20) - Tanqueray No. Ten, dry vermouth and a ruby grapefruit twist, or a Flor De Sevilla Negroni ($18) comprising Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla, Campari, Antica Formula and orange. You can even pick your own garnishes from the greenhouse herb garden on site.
Menu options include delectable dishes like fried pumpkin flowers with goats cheese, sundried tomato and thyme ($16), spiced calamari with juniper and coriander salt and preserved lemon dressing ($16), and smoked trout and sweetcorn fritters with green goddess dipping sauce ($17). There is also a selection of cheeses and a passionfruit, grapefruit, elderflower and white chocolate Eton mess ($16) for dessert. You can see the full menu here.
Soak up the sun or evening breezes on a lounger, or have your very own exclusive get-together in one of the lush greenhouses. These provide comfort, privacy and spectacular views for up to eight people. You can make an enquiry about booking a greenhouse by phoning (07) 3365 8999.
