A fish and chip shop on Lygon Street, who'd have thought! Of course, this place was classy (complete with fresh fish on display).
I asked for grilled fish and chips. The gentleman behind the counter asked if I was sure that I wouldn't prefer a salad instead. Here's the face I pulled:
When I got my meal, the chips were strangely flavoured (spiced? herbed?) but they were nice enough. The portion size wasn't huge. I've tried to block the cost from my mind, but I think it was around $14.
If I approach my experience from the perspective of comparing it to a regular fish and chip shop (low on price, high on quantity), I think I'd be disappointed. But I don't think Tank Fish & Chippery is pretending to be that. They're a sit-down restaurant and they offer something different. All in all it wasn't bad for something different.
It's not my thing, but I've heard good things about their peppered calamari.
