Tandoori Guru

Never judge a book by its cover. Tandoori Guru is comparable to any fine Indian restaurant in Adelaide. The outside may not look like much but the dishes we ordered were simply delicious.
Our lamb rogan josh was tender and aromatic. Unlike typical curries, this dish had a milder chilli flavour somewhat similar to that of paprika. The onion and tomato-based sauce truly emphasised aroma instead of heat. Its blend of spices would have included clove, bay leaves, cardamom and cinnamon I believe.
The cottage cheese in our palak paneer was homemade just as it should be. These little morsels of goodness were cooked in a thick puree made from fresh spinach. The dish was spiced to perfection with its garam masala coming through beautifully.
Although a variety of naan was on offer, we chose plain naan in order not to interfere with the flavours of the curries. It was baked soft in the tandoor and served us well as a side together with our steamed basmati rice.
The restaurant can be found at 76 Essington Lewis Avenue in Whyalla. It is open for dinner every day of the week except Sunday. On weekdays, you'll also be able to grab a 'lunch special' consisting of curry, rice and soft drink for only $13.90.
Do pay them a visit when you're in the vicinity. The staff was friendly and the service could not be faulted. The restaurant and its kitchen, which you could easily peep into, was spotlessly clean too. I will definitely be back.
