I do not understand why Tandoori Fames In West Footscray does not have people lining up for miles. You cannot fault them; their food is consistently excellent, the service is excellent and their prices unbeatable.
The proud owners of Tandoori Flames at both West Footscray and Kingsville pride themselves on their traditional Indian food and courteous and attentive service.
I have been coming to both locations of Tandoori Flames restaurants for five years now and I have never been disappointed. Even though I know the quality, it still always exceeds my expectations.
The only challenge I can think of at West Footscray is the parking. I've never got a park on Barkly Street but always manage to get one in the street parallel. When we got out of our car, my sister said she could already smell beautiful Indian aromas.
The restaurant has been fully renovated and features modern charcoal grey booths for privacy and comfort. There is a fully stocked bar and plenty of room. I'm thrilled to say that we could talk at a normal volume and be easily heard.
Our waitress today introduced herself as Kaffi. She was very friendly and attentive, checking how we were enjoying the meal and advising us that she could explain anything we wanted her to.
It's always so hard to choose, so we went for the very inexpensive vegetarian banquet (only $30 pp) with a serve of the ever popular Butter Chicken. No disappointment there!
The first item we sampled was Hava Bhara kebab. It was like a very moist green falafel with tasty mint sauce. The next item was Aloo Tikki Chaat and this was my sister's favourite. It was a mashed and fried potato with lots of spices and fruit, including pomegranate, which we love.
I'd love to have their Naan recipe. It was the best I've tasted. It was not the run of the mill naan. Apart from this, my favourite dish there was Paneer Balti Masala, which was a delicious tofu in tomato sauce with assorted vegetables. These dishes were served with a fresh crisp garden salad (tomatoes, carrots, onions and cucumber) and Saffron Rice. You can see from the (unfiltered) photos that the colour of the fresh vegetables.
I should definitely mention the dessert called Gulag Jameen. This is like a warm, very sweet soft doughnut. Not good for those trying to give up sugar but excellent regardless.
The banquets range from $30 per person to $59 per person. They also have what they called three Bs, which means Butter Chicken, Naan and Beer for $25 or 3Ps which is Paneer Butter Masala, plain Nana and Lassie for only $22.
Kids eat free at Tandoori Flames up to 4 years old and children from 4 to 9 years are half price. They cater to vegans and have an extremely extensive menu. I'm betting it would be impossible to not find something that you loved.
Tandoori Flames has fabulous bargains, for example, naan from $2.90, curries from $14.90 and desserts from only $6. They also have vegan food and Indo Chinese food. If you post a photo of Tandoori Flames on Instagram and tag five friends, you will get $10 off the next visit.
If you prefer, you can enjoy your meal and an outdoor courtyard area out the back or you can order online and they often have very big discounts. Any way you like it, Tandoori Flames is well and truly worth a few visits soon.
