The scene is set for right royal evening. Bollywood style music is playing loudly in the background, balloons decorate the tables, plush seating and exquisite wallpaper make you feel like you are dining in the finest of Indian restaurants.

Tandoori Flames is the official caterer for Bollywood celebrities when visiting Melbourne. The chefs have more than 50 years experience, which is plain to see and taste. This is my sixth visit and I have never been disappointed.

There were four tempting banquets on the menu. I had previously tried the vegetarian banquet but this time we ordered the silver banquet. For only $30 per head, this is extraordinary value for two entrees two mains, salad, rice, raita, bread and dessert.

The food was so good that we wish we hadn't eaten all day. It was hard to stop even when we were full. On the upside, we got to take home plenty of takeaway. My self-confessed fussy companion said it was very rare for her to want to try such a large variety of foods let alone eat it and enjoy everything on the banquet. This is pretty high recommendation and so we sure you'll love it too.

On arrival, we were served complementary papadams with mint and spicy tomato dips.

We did the only sensible thing when the menu was so extensive ... we picked a banquet. These start from only $25 for the vegetarian banquet (also available in vegan) This is extraordinary value and includes two large entrees - Vegetarian Pakora and Aloo Tikki. This is followed by Daal Makhni, Malai Kofta with Raita, Saffron Rice, Garlic Naan and fresh crisp Garden Salad (tomatoes, carrots, onions and cucumber). Keep room for their special Ice-cream dessert.

Tonight we chose the silver banquet (only $30 per head). This included: Chaat Papri, Vegi Manchurian, Butter Chicken, Dahl Makhani, Saffron Rice, Salad, Raita, Naan (steaming hot off the stove top) and Pista Kulfi.

The Chaat Papri was a delicious crispy pastry tossed with yoghurt and tangy mixed chutney. The Veggie Manchurian was my favourite for the night. These spicy vegetable balls are deep fried with a delicious spicy sauce. I was glad we chose mild!

It doesn't matter how many times I try, I can never get my butter chicken close to this one. Obviously, they have some special ingredients and use the freshest chicken as it just fell off the fork. The Dahl Makhani, which is a black lentil dish, was my second favourite. It had been simmered over embers in a Tandoori oven with onions, chilli, ginger, fresh cream and butter.

The mains were served with Saffron rice, very fresh salad, Raita, (couldn't get any fresher) and Naan. The ]was a good way to refresh the palate. My fussy companion said it was hard to choose a favourite.
