Enjoy walking, exploring my surrounds, photography, scrapbooking and stringing words together

A birthday present for my husband was an outing to Tamborine Mountain. It was a beautiful morning and we stopped to photograph the wonderful panorama which spread before our eyes.

Our main destination for the day was the Skywalk at the Tamborine Mountain Eco Centre located on Geissmann Drive.

Skywalk what is it? Well, our understanding was this was a structure situated on private property enabling visitors and tourists the opportunity to experience a natural rainforest in a unique way, and so we considered it a privilege to be able to share in this natural beauty.

With a great deal of thought in mind for protection of this pristine environment, a magnificent steel structure was built by the owners of this property to carry visitors over this rainforest with its free flowing creek in the shadows below. Signposts informed this was home to platypus, although we didn't have the pleasure of spotting one.

The walk starts through the Rainforest Eco Gallery and leads on to the spectacular elevated walkway. A safe structure leads through canopy of the rainforest and also enables one to look down through to the forest floor below. The walkway gradually descends to the lower canopy where the walk continues beside the creek and rock pools

The signpost reminds us that "this canopy now protects an important rainforest remnant and provides one of the last habitats for some highly endangered plants and animals."

Along the way you will come across an enclosure filled with fascinating local history and artefacts on display from a bygone era, a reminder of our pioneer days.

There is then the challenge to walk out on to the 40 meter long Skywalk Cantilever soaring 30 meters over the creek below. This is the longest canopy walk in South East Queensland.

The walk returns you back along the floor of the rainforest to the Centre.

In need of nourishment at the end of your leisurely walk you need go no further than the Birdwing Cafe, where you will find delicious light refreshments to enjoy. Seating is provided both inside and outside on the deck overlooking the rainforest. There is also an interesting gift shop.

The Tamborine Mountain Eco Centre and Rainforest Skywalk is entirely owned and operated by the Moore family

Your Comment
Although what Wendy discribes above is all correct, there is no need whatsoever to spend the Dollars. When in the Tambrine Mountains go to the Cedar Creek Falls and do the Witches Falls walk. This is even more beautiful and FREE.
