For a day out with a difference, visit Mount Tambourine during their annual Scarecrow Festival . Go scarecrow spotting up on the mountain, on the weekend of Friday 19th Oct to Sun 21st October, 2012. The main draw card is the 14km scarecrow trail. Scarecrows will be set out on the trail by noon on the Friday, for judging, so if you want to be an early bird (forgive the pun) and beat the crowds, visit on Friday afternoon to check out the artistic creations. You will discover all manner of scarecrows, traditional and modern, singles and in groups. There are prizes for the best scarecrows, so competition is fierce and creativity is the name of the game to impress the judges. More than 200 scarecrows are expected to appear on the signed trail.

[SECTION]Entertainment[/SECTION]

To compliment the scarecrow trail, there will be free entertainment. The family friendly program of events takes place on the Main Street of Mount Tamborine on Sat 20th and moves across to the Gallery Walk for Sun 21st Oct. There's face painting, busking, belly dancing and street activities.
There's also the chance to kick up your heels at the Saturday night Bush Dance, "run by Transition Tamborine Mountain featuring Bushland Boogie Bush Band".

Tamborine Mountain Arts Collective is holding an exhibition of their works the same weekend as the scarecrow festival. It will be held in the undercover MT Brewery (165 – 185 Long Road, Eagle Heights). These artists will be actively displaying their skills in various mediums, including pottery, glass making, sculptures, book binding, wearable art and more. [ADVERT]
[SECTION]Local Attractions[/SECTION]

Your way up and down the mountain can also include visits to some of the many local attractions. There's the Rainforest Skywalk – an elevated walkway through the middle and upper canopies of the rainforest, Thunderbird Park – where you can search this open cut mine for thunder eggs and Adventure Parc for Australia's highest and longest high ropes adventure course. There are vineyard & winery tours, a distillery and a cheese factory.

The Gallery Walk offers many delightful shops filled with arts, crafts and collectables to browse through, offering everything from glass art (Chameleon Glass Art) to clocks (German Cuckoo Clock Nest), kitchenware (Anne's Corner) to fudge (Granny Mac's Store) and more.

[SECTION]The Festival[/SECTION]

This festival is still a young one in age, having only begun in 2008. The enthusiasm put in to it by residents and local businesses offers a fun family day out for visitors to the mountain. It has young and old smiling. If you are looking for an exSTRAWdinary (sorry couldn't resist that one) day out, then head for Mount Tamborine on 19 – 21 October. 30 mins from the Gold Coast or just over an hour from Brisbane, it's an opportunity to enjoy a day out with your family without too much car travel. I have to say, I love the enthusiasm and creativity of this mountain community.

By the way, anyone can enter so if you are keen to make a scarecrow then you need to get your entry form in by Sat 6th October. Check the How to Register section on the webpage.
