It's that time of year again when Tamborine Mountain comes alive, not with the sound of music, but a celebration of scarecrows during it's annual Scarecrow Festival. It runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October, 2013 and offers a fun family day out.
Sculptures with a difference, all scarecrow related, will grace the roads of North Tamborine on and around Gallery Walk, on a 14 km trail. Homes and businesses will create a mixture of classic and modern scarecrows and put them out on display.
Back in 2008 there were 60 scarecrows on show. This year it is expected that there will be over 200. Visiting the mountain and spotting the scarecrows is a different type of fun, for passengers young and old and it's great to see everyone out enjoying themselves. It's a free event too so all it will cost is your petrol.
Kids love the festival - play them the Speks version of the Dingle Dangle Scarecrow before you set off. It's a traditional Irish sound to accompany an unusual day out. Take that trip up the mountain and enjoy the creativity of this community.
There's lots of entertainment on offer too. Examples of Street Entertainment from last year, together with location info, can all be found on the Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival website. There's a bush dance too on the Saturday night.
If prize money and local fame is a drawcard for you, then get up there this year and check out the competition and enter your own scarecrow next year.
