While teaching my toddler Indonesian we'd read about this park in one of the books. But little did I know it was a real place. This is why I was delighted when we visited it.



In our party was a toddler, a five year old and a 12 year old and they all loved it. And between you and me, I love this place too. It simply makes me happy. Taman Lalu Tintas (aka The Traffic Park) is in the centre of Bandung, quite close to the Bandung City Hall Park which I'll be writing about soon.



It doesn't have great parking that I could see but most people chose to be dropped off. Mopeds aren't really a problem, it's more if you come by car. The tickets are unbelievably cheap for such a fun day out. You'll find the ticket booth on the right as you enter.

The park's designed to educate children about different modes of transport and road safety. All of the activities come at an extra charge, but keep reading as they're all super cheap. Our family would highly recommend entering and heading left to the bike park.



Here, they have a cycle track which has miniature buildings, zebra crossing and working traffic lights. There's even a small petrol station, police station and school. It's very well organised and the children normally get around 10 minutes of cycling.

After that, we normally go for a walk as there's a lovely pathway over a few bridges as we make our way to the train. The train rides slowly around the outskirts of the park. And most recently we also decided to have a go on the carousel which was a little old but they all enjoyed it.



If you don't fancy paying for any extras then that's ok as there are a few park areas like swings and slides. And there are plenty of open spaces just to walk around. There are a few basic places to eat but for us, we took a picnic. You'll find plenty of shaded matted areas and open spaces to enjoy your food.



The other attraction we really enjoyed on another visit was the swimming pool. Again, you need to pay the entrance fee to the park and then pay again for the swimming. No shoes are allowed in the pool area and I have to say I found the changing areas cleaner than I expected. By the side of the two pools is a sitting area for when you've finished swimming, having a snack or if you're just watching. The best feature for me was that within both pools the depth is very shallow – just under a metre. So the children were able to stand and swim as they chose, giving me extra confidence. There are also rubber rings for free but not many; we weren't able to get any during our stay. In one of the pools, you'll find a really small but adequate waterslide feature. Our little people were more than happy climbing it and choosing which of the 3 slides to take down. It does get busy and as the park is frequented more by local people than tourists you'll find that most ladies wear full clothing to swim.



I think the only thing we haven't done is hire police officer costumes and gone inside the covered eating area with its arcade style rides. Like I say even if you choose not to spend any money within the park there's plenty of open space, a bridge and play areas to enjoy.
