Tall Ship Cruise and Mast Climb

Home > Sydney > Cruises | Fun Things To Do
Published January 18th 2015
I decided to purchase a Sydney harbour lunch cruise with a mast climb, as I have previously enjoyed a Sydney Harbour cruise. I bought this from Groupon website the deal was a special for $69 which included an open bar and barbeque lunch and $25 extra to do the mast climb.

Why do this you ask? This is a great activity to tick off your bucket list as a bucket list is a way of measuring living your best life. When I look back upon the years activities, I am amazed at all of the things I have done over the year and since I started started doing this, I have either done the things I wanted or exceeded my list!

At 1.30 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Sydney we boarded the Tall Ship Soren Larsen and set sail. Once at sea, we were served some lovely appetisers and the bar opened, however, you cannot drink alcohol directly before the mast climb. As my sister and I were two of the four individuals who undertook this climb we were first to be harnessed up and the anxiety started setting. I am afraid of heights!

I was the first on the ladder and commenced the very physically demanding climb and started panicking about half way (the height is about 3 times the ceiling height) but as my sister was below me she kept telling me to "keep going you can do it" I managed to make it to the top and OMG what a view! I had put my phone down my top to take some photos which included a selfie of myself and the amazing view and my sister below me on the ladder.

When I returned to the deck I felt a great sense of accomplishment then and for days after. This activity is one of the best things I have ever done and not to mention the fabulous picture I got when I was at the top including the selfie! I will be forever grateful to my sister that she was below me on the ladder and pushed me to make it to the top otherwise I would not have made it. Therefore my other accomplishment is that I faced my fear!

You don't necessarily have to do the a mast climb though as the cruise alone is also a wonderful experience which you can check off your bucket list and not only will you feel totally exhilarated you will also enjoy the fabulous Sydney Harbour, drinks, barbecue lunch and a taste of a little of Australian history.
