17 year old Mia is grieving the loss of her mother, on the anniversary of her death. Her best friend, Jade invites her to a party hosted by two teenagers, Joss and Haley, who have been making videos of themselves supposedly summoning spirits to temporarily possess people. Jade doesn't believe the videos are real but goes to the party anyway to see her boyfriend, Daniel, with Mia and Jade's little brother, Riley, tagging along. They soon find that the spirits are both real and dangerous and cause people to hurt themselves and others. Soon Mia's grief and longing to see her mother again forces her to make a terrible choice.

Talk To Me is an Australian supernatural horror film. It is the debut feature of twin brothers, Danny and Michael Philippou (creators of the YouTube channel Rackaracka ), who wrote and directed it and premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

This movie delivers when it comes to horror and thankfully doesn't rely too much on cheap jump scares. Gore and violence are also used sparingly. Sophie Wilde (from Eden and The Portable Door) as Mia was especially chilling in her possession scene. Newcomer, Joe Bird, is incredible as the 14-year-old Riley. Certain scenes reminded me of the 2022 Aussie horror movie Sissy , although that was more of a dark comedy and this is straight-up horror. It's a wild ride, full of teenagers making obviously bad decisions just to feel alive, and then facing the awful consequences.

Content Warning: Suicide and self-harm. For animal lovers, the dog does not die in this movie, but things do not go as well for the kangaroo.

Talk To Me is a gloriously chaotic Aussie horror movie. It was released theatrically in Australia on July 27, 2023.

If you're in the mood for an Aussie horror flick, you might like to try The Possessed or one of these .
