Spread the word and the word is 'Arrrrrrr'
Thar be some people who don't need much 'o an excuse to act like a fool when th' opportunity arises. Fer th' rest 'o th' population, sometimes thar needs to be a pretty jolly reason to act like a loon.

There are some people who don't need much of an excuse to act like a fool when the opportunity arises. For the rest of the population, sometimes there needs to be a pretty good reason to act like an idiot.

Trust me, this is a great reason.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Avast! It's Talk Like a Pirate Day, arrrrrr

What started as joke between two mates playing racquetball in 1995 has now become an International Event of Biblical proportions.

Of course, they needed a little help from a third mate who happened to have a Pulitzer and agreed to write a column throwing his support behind the idea, but don't we all have mates with a Pulitzer? Arrrrrr.

So every year on September 19th (Cap'n Slappy's ex-wife's birthday how proud she must be), the world unites in a chorus of 'ahoy s' and 'cobbers' and dodgy jokes about 'Long John Silver'.

This is the only day of the year you can call your boss a mangy curr and get away with it.*

Get your hat and your parrot and climb on board

Here are some of the rip-snortin' things you can do this Pirate Day:

Translate your blog posts into pirate talk (or even better, use it on your emails at work)

Get yourself a pirate name

Work on your pirate pick-up lines

Have a pirate party

There is even a special section dedicated to junior pirates ('arr')

So gather up your scurvy crew and set sail for the funnest and stupidest day of the year.

Sounds like fun Shannon - I'll show my boss your article & hopefully we'll all "talk like a pirate" (which should be interesting as we work in a government call centre: imagine the greeting to callers "ahoy, me hearty, how can I me helping yee?" or something like that!

There are a lot of Pirate themed events around at the moment. One of our best night clubs is having a Talk like a Pirate night on the 20th of September. Should be great fun. There are a lot of unusual characters in the club any time so this should bring a few more out. Looking forward to it.
