We first found while wondering around Sussex Street looking for places to eat. Looking at the menu displayed at the entrance, we thought the food served there looked delicious and decided to try and see if it tasted as good as it looked. We were pleased that this was the case.

Takeru serves Japanese cuisine and we found the dishes served there to be a bit more unique than the ones served at similar places we ate at in the past. The dishes we chose to order were Spicy Tofu, Spicy Skin Namban, Omu-Soba and the half-sized Karaage Don.

The Spicy Tofu consisted of large chunks of fried tofu that was perfectly contrasted by the spicy sauce it was served in. One of the more unique dishes we ate there was Spicy Skin Namban, which consisted of deep fried slices of salmon skin served with Namban Sauce, best described as Japanese mayonnaise that is mixed with chilli paste. The salmon skin slices were crispy and the Namban Sauce gave it a nice zing.

Omu-soba is a variation of Omu-rice, which consists of an omelette wrapped around fried or plain rice. As the name suggests, the rice is replaced with fried soba noodles that was cooked with chicken. Both the omelette and the soba noodles were cooked perfectly and the sauce that was drizzled over it complemented it nicely.

If you do not have the appetite to eat a full-sized portion of their dishes or wish to sample more dishes, they also offer half-sized portions for some of their dishes. We chose to order the half-sized Karaage Don and was pleased that the chicken was crispy and tender and was nicely complemented by the Japanese mayonnaise and the fresh lettuce leaves.

Prices for the dishes were also very reasonable, only costing around $14.
