If this is the first you're hearing of it, Takeover Melbourne is a new initiative for young Melburnians to be heard, and they've got a YOUTH COMPETITION that has been running since mid-March 2020. Our youth can enter by setting up a free ABC account. Get the FAQs HERE. If you don't live in greater Melbourne, you're not eligible to enter, but if you live in regional Australia, you may be eligible for the sister program Heywire.
Entries are now open for all High School Students (and those outside formal education aged 12-18) to share a story about their life. The winners will work with ABC Producers to have their story featured on ABC TV, radio or online. Entries close 27 June 2020.
If you're a TEACHER entering on behalf of students, use your own account but use your student's details for name, gender, date of birth fields etc. SEE HERE to add it to your curriculum as it's totally free and mapped to the Australian Curriculum. If you're a STUDENT, SEE HERE.
Share a true story in any format (text, video, audio - recommended length is 400 words) about an aspect of the author's life to Enter. To ensure the safety of participants, some changes have been made to the program as a response to COVID-19. For more information GET IN TOUCH.
Here are some TOP TIPS to help your story stand out from the crowd. You're not being asked to tell your WHOLE life story, just one important or interesting aspect that's meaningful for you, whether it be something you had to overcome, something that irritates you and so on.
However, if you feel the need to talk about several aspects of your life, break it up into a few smaller stories as you can enter more than one piece in the Takeover Comp. If after reading the top tips you're still stuck for ideas, check out some of the stories that have been entered in ABC's sister program for regional youth, Heywire.
