You've got some holiday hours coming up but you can't afford to leave your city. Or maybe you've already been everywhere you want to go (and in that case, must be hard being you). Don't let that holiday go to waste – take a staycation instead.
A staycation is a vacation that one takes without leaving their own city. The staycation gained popularity during the global financial crisis and continues to be popular due to its convenience and low cost. There are two types of staycations.
Stay at home
This is pretty basic – you spend your holiday in your own house. You might use the time to tackle all those projects that you never had time for before like
planting a herb garden,
perfecting your cooking skills or
developing a new hobby. Alternately, you can do absolutely nothing except sleep in and maybe
catch up on your reading or
watch those movies you've been dying to see.
Holiday in your town
If you'd like to get to know your home town a little better, this is for you. This option is exactly the same as taking a normal holiday, except you don't leave your town. Choose an area that you're interested in seeing more of and
book a hotel room. Then, just like any other holiday,
research the events and attractions in the area and make an itinerary. The best thing about taking a holiday in your own town is that if you discover an awesome new restaurant or store, you can come back to it any time you like!
A staycation still provides the rest and relaxation of a normal vacation, while also giving you an opportunity to spend some quality time with your city and with yourself.
