Takarakka Bush Resort at Carnarvon Gorge in South West Queensland (north of Roma and south of Emerald) is an outback oasis with all the comforts of home.

Takarakka sits on Bidjara Country, just a few kilometres from Carnarvon Gorge National Park, and boasts an abundance of wildlife around the entire, well-spaced out resort.

Accommodation types include studio retreats that sleep two people, a cottage that sleep two people, open-plan cabins that sleep two, ensuite safari tents that sleep 2 - 5 people, standard safari tents that sleep 2 - 6 people, and powered and unpowered caravan and tent camp sites .

Entering Takarakka Bush Resort is like an entrance to a complete new world. After hundreds of kilometres of arid countryside, this oasis is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Much of this wildlife is nocturnal, and one of the delights of Takarakka Bush Resort is sitting around in the evening waiting for visitors. Rufous bettongs, a type of tiny kangaroo, are often surprisingly friendly and will graze their way along the lawn right up to campers' seats at night!

Echidnas are also surprisingly non-wary here, and will simply waddle through your site in their search for apparently delicious ants.

Takarakka is famous for their resident platypus who live along Carnarvon Creek. There are a number of still pools along the length of Takarakka Bush Resort with ideal places to sit still and wait at dawn and dusk for these elusive monotremes to appear.

Takarakka Bush Resort has a surprisingly well-stocked shop with souvenirs, bread, milk, some meat, and all-important holiday staples such as ice creams. Wildlife who are being cared for and rehabilitated are also on-site at times, to the delight of many visitors.

During the day, one of the large pools easily accessible from the campsite is set aside as a swimming hole that is ideal for cooling off in after one of the many stunning walks available just down the road in Carnarvon Gorge National Park .

Many of these walks include beautiful creek crossings, visits to caverns with Aboriginal rock art, and dips into the cool of places such as the gorgeous "Moss Garden".

The nature of Carnarvon Gorge is such that a number of these stunning attractions can be visited in a single day, with a main track running along the centre of the gorge, and small detours to the various natural attractions.

The road into Carnarvon Gorge was recently upgraded, with the last 15Km of the only access road paved, making it suitable for travellers with all vehicle types to visit. Takarakka Bush Resort is well-resourced with ample, clean amenities blocks, a coin-operated laundry, and super, clean camp kitchens.

Although all Queensland's Outback is spectacular, reaching the oasis of Takarakka Bush Resort with its superb facilities and incredible cultural heritage and natural beauty is a special moment that every Australian should experience at least once in their lives.
