Overrun by kids and mums on most days, United Square Shopping Mall is no longer just a place renowned for learning centres and children boutiques. It is now home to Duke Bakery, a Taiwanese Bread Chain which is bringing its own version of artisan bread to Singapore .

Consumers here are no stranger to bakeries like Bread Talk and Four Leaves which has outlets all over the island, and Duke Bakery hopes to win a loaf of the market with its differentiated product. If the mad grab during lunch and after-office hours is any gauge of success, Duke's Japanese European style artisan bread is certainly winning customers over from the mass market bakeries.

The appeal is simple. If it looks good, it should taste good, and Duke Bakery definitely wins with its presentation of fresh bread in varied shapes and sizes. Over 60 creations offer a cornucopia of familiar toppings and flavours like chocolate and cheese, and the less familiar Chinese wolfberry and french garlic.

Beguiling names like 'Hades' and 'Fermented Pineapple' add to the excitement of shopping at Duke Bakery. The torched earth appearance of 'Hades' mask the light and soft dough dotted with melted chocolate chips while red wine soaked cubes of pineapple and crunchy walnuts star in the bread roll of 'Fermented Pineapple'.

You can also help yourself to sizable cuts of every flavour before you decide which to buy, which is rare or unavailable from other bakeries. Being so generous with FREE samples certainly wins customers.
