Taisho Japanese is a little gem that is tucked away under the Meriton Suites near Mascot Station in Sydney and emits a welcoming glow as you approach the warmly-lit front door.

Upon entry, the cosy, fishbowl styled restaurant floor lends itself to people watching and bolsters your sensory experience with an adequately mellow soundtrack and some fascinating hanging, knotted rope light fittings.

The menu is perfectly thought out and roundly delicious, though you can't go past the Lion King Roll. Eight healthy pieces of sushi chock full of crab, avocado and cucumber and wrapped in baked salmon doused in a special house sauce. Other dishes of note are the Edamame and Gyoza Dumplings.

On this occasion, we also indulged in the Wagyu Beef Tataki. Served raw on a hot plate, you are free to cook it to your liking and then douse it in citrus and ponzu soy sauce, adding the perfect salty tang to the wagyu strips.

Taisho is a wonderful restaurant for a quick pick me up bento box or to indulge in a multi-course feast with your family and friends.
