Sustainable fashion is part of the larger trend of sustainable design, where a product is created and produced with consideration to the environmental and social impact it may have throughout its total life span. As this trend is becoming an increasingly important business consideration and we as consumers are becoming more aware of the impacts of our purchases, green is literally the new black.

Consider the wastage impact alone. Fashions change week to week, and consumers regularly purchase cheap imported clothing that fits a trend, then easily throw it away after one wash when it no longer holds it shape, colour or a current 'look'. Perhaps it's time that instead of wearing whatever is 'in', we wear our values.

If you care about fashion and/or sustainability, or just exciting innovations in design, the Tailoring Tomorrow event could be for you.
Presented by Peppermint Magazine and Billy Blue College of Design , Tailoring Tomorrow will bring together a wide range of guest speakers from all aspects of the industry to discuss the future of sustainable design.
Independent labels, major fashion brands will be represented as well as representatives from the textile industry, certification boards and ethical manufacturing.

Guest speakers include sustainability advocate Eloise Bishop, award-winning eco couture designer Rachael Cassar , designers from SOSUME and ALAS , and representatives from Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) and The Council of Textile & Fashion Industries of Australia (TFIA) .

Together they'll share insights into how independent labels and major fashion brands are pioneering ways to merge sustainability and fashion, forging exciting new paths for designers and graduates.

A mini market showcasing textiles, labels and fashion processes will accompany the event, giving guests a chance to engage with concepts and see some excellent examples of sustainable fashion first hand.

Eco events team Grassroots Productions (the same team bringing Australia's first 'Green Carpet event', The Green Ball, to Melbourne in February) will be styling and catering the evening, offering a delicious selection of organic canapés and cocktails.

The ticket price includes food and drinks, and 50% of ticket sales will go to micro-lending charity KIVA .

Head to the Tailoring Tomorrow site to read more about the guest speakers and grab your tickets!
