Classes in Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese form of exercise, originally created as a fighting art, are available free to over 50s in many locations all over Brisbane.

They are offered by Growing Older and Living Dangerously (GOLD), Brisbane City Council's versatile active and healthy lifestyle events' programme.

I am enjoying this gentle outdoor mind and body exercise which, as well as improving my balance and stability, is also invigorating and helping me feel more relaxed and refreshed. I also find it especially calming in today's busy world.

Most classes are mixed and are held weekly, except for public holidays, in peaceful surroundings in Brisbane's leafy parks.

The Chinese claim Tai Chi improves the flow of Qi (life energy) and I can definitely vouch for that.

Cost: All GOLD events that incur a fee now honour the Queensland Government Companion Card, allowing free participation for anyone accompanying a person with disability who requires attendant care support.
