In search of nachos, a friend and I ventured into a small Mexican restaurant in Ormond. Despite its prominent placement beside Ormond Station on North Road, neither of us had ever noticed it before. From the outside, it is nothing too impressive and looks like it might be nothing more than a takeaway shop.



As soon as you walk in, it's apparent that is far from your average restaurant. The kitchen is at the very front; with no effort made to obscure its workings. When my friend and I walked in, the owners welcomed us as they washed dishes. Beyond that, there are two dining rooms with small tables. The bright colour scheme is similar to Taco Bill 's, but it seems a tad less generic. The restaurant appears to be a converted house, judging from the layout and the size of the rooms. Indeed it's very homely and the owners make every effort to check their patrons are happy and well fed. With lively Mexican music playing, presents itself as a genuine Mexican experience.

We went late on a Friday night, missing the dinner rush, and found there to be few other patrons there- which was just as well as the eating areas are quite small.



For $16.50, we had expected the nachos supremo to be a sufficient size for our light snacking purposes but found it to be inadequate. The size of a dinner plate (admittedly it looked a little bigger in real life than it appears in the photo below), it consisted of a steaming hot serving of corn chips topped with salsa, guacamole, sour cream and tasty cheese. We were most unimpressed by the tiny portion of guacamole atop the nachos. However, when we requested more toppings, they gladly brought us a little bowl of each of the toppings, which was more than enough.

Despite the problem of size, the nachos supremo had a strong taste, and were not as bland as typical Mexican franchise nachos. The guacamole was particularly tasty, while the salsa was a touch too spicy for my liking.



has fantastic atmosphere and authentic tastes, but how a plate of nachos and two glasses of Coke Zero came to $29.50, I'll never know.
