All Things Indie in the Village of Yungaburra
Music lovers, hippies, campers, greenies, festival goers and market shoppers unite! The 32nd Tablelands Folk Festival is coming up from 25th – 28th October 2012. The quaint village of Yungaburra on the Atherton Tablelands (a leisurely 1 hour and 10 minute drive from Cairns) is set to come alive for the weekend.

Organisers have once again managed to secure an impressive line up of indie/folk/alternative performers. Highlights for me will include:

The McMenamins - well known brother and sister duo delivering original acoustic music drawing on alternative rock and folk influences.

The Hillbilly Goats – a local high energy favourite which has me out of my seat every time with old time blues and hillbilly roots.

Lily and King – With a trombone, toy piano, prayer bells, guitar, half a drum kit and an abundance of foot stomping this duo is set to create a truly wild and joyful experience.

As well as having the chance to listen to live tunes in a great atmosphere, other happenings around town include:

Songquest 2012
If you have musical talent don't forget to bring your instruments and singing voice as there is a chance you can bag your 15 seconds of fame. The blackboard sessions are back with a trophy and the opportunity to perform your song in the main lounge up for grabs. Judges will be looking for the best original song that has not been commercially released. Songquest 2012 starts Saturday morning at 9am in the Pub garden. Don't miss your chance to join the line up and get your name in the spotlight!

Markets
Any good festival is not complete without a good market and Tableland Folk Festival does not disappoint. Markets will run from Friday to Sunday afternoon during the festival. Here you will find a broad range of food and beverages as well as novelties that only come to Yungaburra once a year.

Wellbeing Fair - FREE!
A Wellbeing Fair is being held in conjunction with the festival. Non ticket holders are welcome to this event. All things wellness and spiritual from shiatsu massage to essential oils, healing practitioners to singing bowls will be available.

Children's Festival
Yep, even the kids have their own festival. There really is something for everyone.

Accommodation
For the full festival experience camping is available and the supermarket will be open with everything you need to self cater. If roughing it isn't for you Yungaburra has arguably the best selection of good quality accommodation on the Tablelands. Atherton and Malanda also have accommodation options available a pleasant 15 minute drive away.

While you are in Yungaburra make the most of it and support the other local businesses including unique retailers and reputable restaurants.
